SWELL created a 3D animation campaign for Anna Sui — a CFDA Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award winner (joining Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, and Diane von Furstenberg in that honor) with over 44 years in fashion and a fragrance empire spanning 58 perfumes distributed across 120+ countries via 200+ beauty counters worldwide. The campaign leveraged CGI and 3D animation — a category growing at 19.9% CAGR and projected to reach $13.4 billion by 2028, as brands from IKEA to Nike increasingly produce the majority of their visual content using computer-generated imagery. SWELL brought this approach to the beauty sector. The creative concept drew on Anna Sui’s maximalist aesthetic — the rich colors, eclectic patterns, and whimsical vintage-inspired details that have made the brand a Gen Z favorite (Dua Lipa among its fans). SWELL’s 3D animation team translated these signatures into fluid, hypnotic loops: fragrance bottles surrounded by swirling botanical elements, kaleidoscopic pattern formations, and liquid simulations that evoked the sensorial experience of each scent. The looping format was deliberately chosen for social media performance — seamless loops hold attention on scroll-based feeds and invite repeated viewing. Studies show 3D animated product videos generate 3x the engagement of standard video content and drive 30% higher conversion rates. AI-enhanced workflows played a significant role in this campaign’s production. Generative AI tools were used to explore visual directions rapidly during the concept phase — testing color combinations, material properties, and animation styles before committing to full 3D rendering. During production, AI-assisted texture generation and environment design accelerated the creation of the intricate, detailed worlds surrounding each fragrance bottle. The result was animation quality that typically requires large studio teams, delivered by SWELL’s lean creative and production team. The campaign assets were designed as a modular content system: hero loops for social media, extended sequences for digital advertising, and still frames extracted for e-commerce and print applications. SWELL handled the full pipeline from creative direction through 3D modeling, animation, rendering, and final delivery. For a designer whose packaging alone has won industry awards — Anna Sui’s Sundae Pretty Pink took Packaging of the Year at the Fragrance Foundation Awards — the 3D animation had to match the craft and detail that defines the brand at every level.
